The O’Brien family and I go way back.
Six years ago, the crew (including twin sisters Megan & Elsbeth) joined me for family portraits with their two furry friends. I immediately fell in love with each member of the family (including the ones with paws).
So, of course I said yes when Megan got in touch with me years later and asked me to do a session with just her and her pup Murray as he neared the end of his life here on Earth.
But, today, we’re not going to talk about Megan and Murray or even the entire O’Brien family. We’re going to talk about Elsbeth and her orange and white tabby, Alexander the Great (or Alex for short).
Elsbeth and Alex are, in my opinion, a match made in heaven.
Elsbeth fell for Alex at a local PetSmart and took him home the same day with the goal of helping him get into shape (he was extremely overweight). Today, Alex is 12 pounds lighter and, although he still has a saggy belly, his eyes and quirky personality are irresistible to everyone he meets.
When Elsbeth called me, she was feeling the need for a few new pictures with her best friend. However, she didn’t want to take him out and about or choose a special venue.
Instead, she wanted to capture Alex in his ‘natural environment,’ or lounging around the house, sleeping in his favorite spots and playing with his collection of toys. So, we opted for a cozy in-home shoot at Elsbeth’s apartment in Alexandria, VA!
The photoshoot was perfect.
Getting to know people and their pets in the comfort of their home is so special and offers a glimpse of the real bond between the two of them.
There’s no pressure to look at the camera, smile, or strike a pose. I just quietly follow behind and capture the best moments of the day.
