Like many families in the U.S., my clients in Haymarket, VA start planning for Christmas early.
Knowing they wanted to keep up the tradition of sending out family photos with Christmas cards, these clients got in touch with me to help them capture the perfect portrait – complete with their fur babies (all five of them!) – for this year’s holiday season.
Not only do they look forward to sending out personal holiday cards each year, but their friends and family love seeing what this year’s picture will look like too!
To add to the fun of this session, this year’s pictures for my clients were extra special because of their newest addition to their family – a silver lab puppy named McKinsey.
Wanting to get individual portraits of their puppy, in addition to capturing the rest of their pup crew (Cavalier Spaniels rescued from a local shelter), I knew the session was going to be a full one before I even got started.
One of the clients’ requests was that I got a shot of all of the pups in the back of their truck, creating a special shot that could be shared on social media. And, when I captured the perfect photo, they couldn’t believe I managed to do it without using Photoshop!
As the session went on, I got to know each pup’s unique personality, which gave me hints about how I could capture their attention.
For example, McKinsey, the lab puppy, was really shy so I let her have her space, almost pretending like I wasn’t photographing her at all. When I did, her true personality came out and it really shone in the pictures!
