The holiday season definitely has a way of making you feel special. Maybe for you, it’s the colder air and shorter days that make you cherish this time of year. Or maybe it has more to do with the festive decorations and loads of parties and holiday events.
Or, if you’re like me and my family, the season is so special because of all of the holiday traditions we look forward to repeating again and again each year.
Holiday traditions, whatever yours might be, allow us to be sentimental, carrying memories into the present day so that we feel like, no matter how many years have passed, not everything has changed.
They’re a way of holding on to what’s good and meaningful and providing opportunities to invite others to share in this magic.
One of my family’s favorite holiday traditions is dressing up our pups (and sometimes ourselves) in fun and festive pajamas. Then, once we’re all decked out, we pile into the car and drive through our local festival of lights, enjoying our hot cocoa as we take in all the sights and sounds.
Another holiday tradition of ours is decorating multiple Christmas trees in our home.
The trees are adorned with a variety of meaningful ornaments, including ones with photographs of all of our favorite RV trips over the years. There’s also a dedicated ‘animal’ tree, complete with decorations that showcase all of our furry family members wearing their adorable (albeit goofy) pajamas.
These traditions, no matter how simple or elaborate they might be, are really what makes the holiday season so special.
