Like most people, when I think of fall, I’m immediately greeted by images of trees filled with vibrant colors, that soft crunch of freshly fallen leaves beneath my feet, warm beverages, and, of course, pumpkins everywhere (and in everything).
And, because of the stunning fall scenery captured in the portraits, I also think of one of my favorite shoots with Bodie and Maya, two one-of-a-kind Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, and their super sweet owners, Neil and Kim.
The Manassas Battlefield is a special place for this furry family, which is why I’ve done all their photoshoots there. Each pup actually has their own spot where we shoot!
This fall-inspired shoot was there as well, but was all about Bodie. At the time, he was training to be a decoy retriever and his owners wanted to capture a few pictures of him before he was through with his training.
We had to put Maya in front of the camera too though! It wouldn’t be complete without her.
Like Bodie, Maya is a Royal Canine National Champion.
What’s more, Maya is also a prize-winning dock-diving dog and has received many awards over her few short years. She actually travels all over the country with her owners and brings home prizes to show off to her brother.
Kim and Neil brought along their creativity and fresh ideas for this recent shoot, which made the day that much more special! Having clients get involved in their pets’ photoshoots brings a fresh perspective and makes the whole process more fun.
Together, we brainstormed cute ways to pose the two champion dogs and different tricks we could use to get their personalities to shine through on camera.
We took individual shots, pictures of the duo together and even a few with Kim and Neil for the mantle at home.
In the end, everything about the day was perfect, including the fall colors and the blankets of leaves on the ground.
